Ingredients of Punjabi Chana Dal

  1. Prepare of chana dal (Bengal Gram), soaked for an hour.
  2. You need of oil.
  3. It's of ghee.
  4. Prepare of cumin seeds.
  5. You need of dry red chilies.
  6. It's of asafoetida.
  7. You need of ginger, chopped.
  8. It's of garlic, chopped.
  9. Prepare of green chilies, chopped.
  10. It's of onion, sliced.
  11. Prepare of tomato, chopped.
  12. It's of coriander powder.
  13. It's of cumin powder.
  14. It's of salt.
  15. It's of kasuri methi, crushed.
  16. You need of turmeric powder.
  17. You need of red chili powder.
  18. You need of garam masala powder.
  19. It's of coriander leaves, chopped.

Punjabi Chana Dal instructions

  1. Pressure cook the dal in 2 & 1/2 cups water till soft, but not mushy. Keep aside..
  2. Heat oil and ghee. Temper with red chilies, cumin seeds & asafoetida. Saute for a few seconds..
  3. Add chopped ginger, garlic & green chilies. Stir fry for a minute..
  4. Now add onion & continue to stir fry till light brown..
  5. Add chopped tomatoes & give it a stir. Cover & cook till it is mashed well..
  6. Add all the dry spices (except salt) and mix well..
  7. Add boiled dal, salt & kasuri methi. Cover & simmer on a low flame for 4-5 minutes..
  8. When done, switch off the flame & garnish with coriander leaves..
